RUC’s School of Global Governance Visited UNICEF China Office

The School of Global Governance, Renmin University of China (RUC) visited the UNICEF China Office on October 11, 2023,including 35 students from 11 schools led by Hu Qifan, Program Coordinator at the Office of the School of Global Governance, RUC. The activity was hosted byFu Tao, UNICEF Human Resources Officer.

Zhang Shulin, a 2010 graduate of RUC and a social policy officer, introduced the basic information and values of UNICEF's global work, combined with videos related to World Children's Day and interactive discussions with students.

Li Ning, Human Resources Officer, first reviewed the cooperation between the School of Global Governance of RUC and the UNICEF China Office, introducing UNICEF's mission, values, work model, position types, and the current status of the Chinese team. Li Ning interpreted UNICEF's 'CRITAS' values and core competencies and introduced the career development and personal growth resources provided by UNICEF to its employees.

Fu Tao introduced the UNICEF internship program, including the internship recruitment process, application requirements, and internship model. UNICEF provides interns with training and activities in job skills, professional skills, and career planning, establishes training plans centered on mentorship, assists interns in setting their own work goals, and conducts evaluations and reviews with interns at the end of the internship.

Subsequently, two RUC students who were interning at the UNICEF China Office shared their internship experiences.

Yu Yiqi, a 2020 undergraduate student from the School of Foreign Languages and a member of the third phase of the training program of the School of Global Governance, expressed gratitude for the valuable platform and opportunities provided by the School of Global Governance, and shared her internship experience with the public and private sectors at UNICEF.

In addition to providing opportunities for career growth, UNICEF also provides interns with social opportunities, training resources, and a good working environment. The internship experience at UNICEF not only provides opportunities to gain work experience and skills but also nurtures a sense of mission and belonging in the fight for children's rights.

Mu Ruotong, a 2020 undergraduate student from the School of Philosophy and a member of the second phase of the training program of the School of Global Governance, shared her work content and experience at the UNICEF Public Partnerships Office, introducing UNICEF's efforts to protect children and other vulnerable groups in South-South cooperation and partnerships.

She encouraged students interested in international organization work to actively participate in courses provided by the School of Global Governance, learn the professional skills required for international organization work from the classroom, and understand and participate in United Nations-related activities to support the advancement and realization of sustainable development goals in China.

Students had in-depth discussions and exchanges with Li Ning on career development, academic planning, and competency development.

Clemence Ingabire, Human Resources Manager, welcomed the arrival of the students and teachers. She briefly introduced her work experience at UNICEF and hoped that the visit would enable everyone to more tangibly experience UNICEF's inclusive work atmosphere and its work concepts of care and respect. She also hoped to provide a clearer understanding of UNICEF's organizational structure and looked forward to seeing everyone again in the future.

At the end of the activity, everyone took a group photo.

Jiexia Li, a 2021 undergraduate student from the School of Foreign Languages and a member of the fourth phase of the training program of the School of Global Governance shared her thoughts as follows:

'I am honored to join this visit. Under the enthusiastic reception of UNICEF officers and senior interns, we gained a deeper understanding of the organization's functions, employment requirements, and working environment. The equal and inclusive environment attracts one upright, enthusiastic, and eager to contribute to the world's children. Such opportunities are rare and have enlightened my thoughts on the international organization career path, perhaps having a profound impact on my future.'

As one of the School of Global Governance’s flagship programs, the 'International Organizations in China' visiting programs have visited more than ten international organization representative offices in China, enhancing students' understanding of international organizations, broadening their knowledge of the United Nations, bridging the gap between students and international organizations, and bringing international organizations closer to the youth of RUC.
